Assistant Professor S. Sato was awarded 26th Tokin Foundation Encouraging Prize by Tokin Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology at March 8th, 2016. The topic of his research was an experimental investigation of the redox reaction on the naturally oxidized surface of the CoFeB film by boron atoms that diffuse toward the surface. This research was appreciated based on the following points: an academic contribution for further understanding of the spintronic device materials and an industrial contribution for research and development of the magnetic tunnel junctions toward innovative energy-saving system. This work has been supported by “Three-Dimensional Integrated Circuits Technology Based on Vertical BC-MOSFET and Its Advanced Application Exploration” (Research Director: Prof. Tetsuo Endoh) of ACCEL under JST.

In the evaluation process, the following criteria are comprehensively considered: uniqueness, advantage, innovativeness, and contributions to academia and industry of the research.

Tokin Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology was founded in 1990 for an encouragement and a support of young researchers in the field of engineering, in Miyagi prefecture.
